Monday from 10am - Noon; meet at Harbor Ave SW & Lotus Ave SW
Hey crew, we didn't make it all the way to Spokane Street in last week's birthday cleanup for Brandi, so this week we'll pick up where we left off and seal the deal on MLK Day.
We'll park and start along Lotus Ave. SW which is just north and around the bend from 7-11. From there we can head south towards the West Seattle Bridge and Spokane Street, our turnaround point.
I'd describe this as a mixed cleanup, easy/leisurely on the east side of the street, kid and pet friendly, we'll just want to be mindful of the bike path as we'll be on it or adjacent to it whenever on the east side of the street, there are a couple long term RV's parked opposite of 7-11 and along that stretch so we'll avoid anything that could be belongings of these folks or items close to those vehicles.
The cleanup is a bit grittier on the west side of the street with quite a bit of runoff and mud from the hillside as well as several encampments up the hill with some remnants around the sidewalk entrances to said camps. I'd say the west side of the street and the median between the north and southbound lanes should be adults only who are good at monitoring their surroundings and the traffic and should be wearing vests which will be provided. Besides that though weather is supposed to be nice and this is a nice flat section of West Seattle.
There's plenty of street parking on either side of the street around Lotus Ave SW, just don't park in the bus stop. The walk from Lotus to Spokane is approximately 0.8 miles so should be doable with a decent sized group.
Pickup sticks and bags will be provided, but if you have a bucket feel free to bring that for easier collection. See you Monday, feel free to ask questions in the FB discussion area.
